Edith Juanah, ATR-P, LPC-Associate

Supervised by Awa Jangha, PhD, LPC-S, ATR-BC

Edith is a provisional art therapist, passionate about helping clients explore trauma through the creative arts. She enjoys being able to provide a safe environment to use various art mediums as a vehicle for expressing emotions, thoughts, and words that would otherwise be difficult to access.

In her early childhood, Edith found safety and solitude in art amidst various areas of chaos. Edith often states that “art saved her life”, because it gave her a space to express when she couldn’t find the words. Edith carried her personal experience of the healing power of art with her through college and onto graduate school. Edith was a first generation college graduate; She received a Bachelors in Studio Art from Baylor University and a Masters of Science in Art Therapy from Florida State University.

During her time in college, Edith spent many hours providing therapy to marginalized communities and exploring the impact of trauma on communities of color. She specializes in exploring intergenerational trauma, racial trauma, and family or origin concerns with folxs in marginalized communities. Edith uses a client centered approach alongside narrative therapy to explore our individual lived experiences and empower clients to find their voice and speak their truth. Edith has pursued training in Trauma Model Therapy Certification through the Ross Institute and Narrative Therapy approaches. She has experience working with children within the juvenile justice system and foster care systems, as well as adults with DID, PTSD, and other mood disorders. Edith uses her previous experience working within marginalized communities and non-profit sectors to provide a nurturing therapeutic environment.

Edith also believes in the importance of “doing your own work” and thus has spent her own time exploring patterns of intergenerational trauma that exist in her own family of origin through EMDR and narrative therapy. She states that she “wouldn’t ask clients to explore or do anything that she herself has not explored”. Edith believes in authenticity and leveling power dynamics that may exist in therapy; This she carries this with her into the therapeutic environment. She is committed to helping clients begin their journey towards addressing and healing trauma.

In her freetime, Edith enjoys spending time with her orange tabby, Easel and her partner, Zana. Edith also enjoys painting and spending time outdoors with her family.
